Creative Nassau obtained a prestigious UNESCO designation for the City of Nassau to become a UNESCO Creative City of Crafts & Folk Art in 2014 based on our unique Bahamian Straw Tradition.
Creative Nassau is very pleased to offer a 2-week Beginners Straw Plaiting Class on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am - 2pm at Doongalik Studios #20 Village Road, Nassau, Bahamas.
Long Island Master Straw Plaiter, Rosemary Brice, will conduct the classes. Participants will learn an amazing variety of straw plaiting techniques, as well as the amazing History of Bahamian Straw Plaiting, Straw Palm identification, Harvesting and Sustainability, Stripping and Clipping.
At the end of these sessions, successful participants can be eligible to earn a living as skilled entrepreneurs and provide plaited straw that is in high demand by many artisans!
